Advice you can read in plain English.

Advisor To is a fee-only advisory practice for retirement planning and investing. You get one written plan, a portfolio that matches it, and a person who explains the trade-offs instead of selling you a product.

Three things we actually do

Most people do not need a hundred services. They need a plan that survives a bad year, a portfolio that matches the plan, and someone to call when the markets get loud.

01

Retirement planning

We work out what your life costs, what your savings can realistically support, and when the numbers say you can stop. Then we test the plan against a bad decade, not just a good one.

02

Investment management

A portfolio built from low-cost, diversified funds and sized to the plan. We rebalance on a schedule, keep costs visible, and write down why we own each piece.

03

A second opinion

Already have an advisor, a 401(k) and a brokerage account? Bring it all. We review the whole picture and tell you plainly what is working and what is not.

Who this is for

  • Five to fifteen years from retirement. You have real savings now, and the question has shifted from saving to deciding.
  • Business owners and the self-employed. No pension, uneven income, and a lot of decisions about how much the business is worth to your retirement.
  • People who inherited money or a portfolio. You want a calm, written answer about what to keep, what to sell and what to ignore.
  • Anyone who has been sold something complicated. Variable annuities, whole-life policies, private deals — we will tell you what it costs you.

We are a good fit for people who want to understand their money. If you would rather hand it all over and never look at a statement, we are probably not the practice for you — and we will say so on the first call.

How it works

  1. First call, 30 minutes, free. Where you are, what worries you, whether we are the right fit.
  2. Gather and organise. Statements, accounts, tax returns, benefits. We do the sorting.
  3. The written plan. A plain-English document with the numbers, the assumptions and the decisions.
  4. Ongoing advice. Annual review, rebalancing, and a call whenever life changes.

Questions people ask before the first call

What does fee-only mean, in practice?

We are paid by our clients, not by fund companies, insurers or brokers. No commissions, no product payments, no referral fees. That is the whole business model, and it is why the advice you hear is about your plan rather than about a product.

What does it cost?

A flat annual fee, quoted in writing after the first call once we know what your situation actually involves. There is no fee for the first call and no obligation to continue after it.

Do I have to move my accounts?

No. Some clients move everything, some keep their existing 401(k) and brokerage accounts where they are, and some hold part of the portfolio at their current custodian. The plan comes first; where the money sits is a detail we settle afterwards.

How is this different from a robo-advisor?

A robo-advisor will build you a portfolio. It will not tell you whether you can retire in three years, whether to take Social Security at 62 or 70, how your mortgage fits the plan, or what happens to the survivor if one of you dies first. Those are the questions we answer.
